Congratulations to Dr Bob Holland & Dr Paul Brockwell who appeared recently on ABC 'The New Inventors' with 'Intelligent Plastic' packaging winning and receiving peoples choice award. They are to reappear as finalists on 25th November 2009. Bob Holland will speak on this technology at a coming meeting.

What Is Intelligent Plastic???

Intelligent Plastic Pty Ltd (IPPL) is a technology development firm that holds patents for methods of measuring and monitoring natural and synthetic chemicals & biological activities.

These measurements can be used as a direct and precise measure of product integrity.  This fundamental invention enables the user to be assured of product quality by way of continuous monitoring of useful life or to enable risk avoidance /benefit assessment.

IPPL products are low cost labels that can be incorporated into any packaging or affixed to virtually any surface or product.
They are intelligent because they measure and interpret biochemical activity on or around the product they are attached to or incorporated in. They directly measure the matter of concern: freshness, toxicity, health risk, benefit or diagnostic assessment.

The Australian Food Engineering Association (AFEA) is open to members of the Australian Institue of Food Science and Technology (AIFST), Engineers Australia (www.engineersautralia.org.au) and Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). There is no membership fee. To become a member; complete and form:

AFEA National MembForm.doc or AFEA National MembForm.pdf

With branches in NSW and Victoria, each year the AFEA conducts technical programs and site visits to aid professional development of members. In 2007/8 a review of program was made due to decreasing numbers of members attending meetings. Programming in NSW resulted in selection of an international visiting speaker and adoption of popular theme: sustainability.

During 2008/9 issues were identified in influencing attendance patterns. Many members simply did not have the time to attend talks due to travel, work or other commitments. As a response, this collaborative workspace home was developed by the 2009 incoming NSW secretary.

This is a real workspace!  Please edit this page, create new pages, and invite others to use the workspace with you. This site will become a real-time AFEA with your contribution. For inspiration see how other PBworks customers are using their workspaces. Check out our PBworks educator community (not a support forum). Resource including The PBworks Manual and 30-second training videos can help show you how to edit, add videos and invite users. If trouble persists click the help link at the top of this page.  Our support gurus will get back to you asap.
